Chef Mavro
Aloha Joe I know that we always talk about the newest up and coming restaurants but I wanted to remind your listeners of a timeless classic that is a true treasure in paradise.
Chef/owner George Mavrothalassitis leads Mavro, a top-rated fine dining restaurant famous for innovative flavor combinations and food & wine pairings that will make your taste buds explode!
Located at 1969 South King Street, Chef Mavro consistently partners with local farmers to offer menus dedicated to regional products from baby greens and tomatoes to vanilla and lavender.
The menu changes periodically but at the moment Chef Mavro is featuring fresh perigord truffles – flown in from france!
Chef Mavro is the only independently owned Hawaii restaurant to earn the American Automobile Association (AAA) Five Diamond status (2012 for 5th consecutive year), as well as the only Hawaii restaurant with Gayot Three Toques 18/20 rating and on their “Top 40 Restaurants in the U.S.”.
Chef George Mavrothalassitis holds the prestigious James Beard award, considered the “Oscars” of the culinary world and is a founding member of the Hawaii Regional Cuisine.
Visit the restaurant’s website www.chefmavro.com for more information and to watch a video of Chef Mavro preparing a signature recipe while standing in the waves of Waikiki!
Open for dinner nightly. Reservations 6-9:30 p.m., closed Monday.
Sounds absolutely amazing! Be sure to check out Chev Mavro on your next visit to the islands!
53 By The Sea
Aloha Joe we had to say good bye to John Dominis in 2012 but we are soooo thrilled about the new restaurant that took its space called 53 BY THE SEA.
Designed around its breathtaking view of Waikiki Beach and Diamond Head, 53 By The Sea located at 53 Ahui Street in Honolulu, offers guests the opportunity to experience Hawaii dining like never before!
Patrons will delight at Chef Hiroshi Hayakawa’s artistry as he combines fresh local ingredients with succulent seafoods and the finest hand-cut meats.
Just as exquisite are the melodic sounds of local pianists playing on the Italian made Fazioli piano in the adjacent T’s at 53 lounge, featuring wines and spirits from around the globe.
53 By The Sea is truly a celebration for all the senses!! For more information visit www.53bythesea.com.
Sounds wonderful! Be sure to check out the new 53 By the Sea the next time you are in Honolulu!
3660 On The Rise
Aloha Joe the Kaimuki area is probably one of Oahu’s best kept food district secrets, but I’m here to let you and your listeners in on the buzz that is only minutes away from Waikiki.
3660 on the Rise opened its doors in September 1992 by partners Russell Siu and Gale Ogawa.
The name denotes the location of the restaurant at 3660 Waialae Avenue, on the corner of Waialae and Wilhelmina Rise. Even the logo has been carefully selected, itself being a map of the restaurant’s location.
The atmosphere of the dining area is inviting with a feeling of warmth. Its contemporary style blends in well with the architecture of the award-winning building. A combination of marble, granite and woods instills a comfortable feeling. The glass wall dividing the kitchen from the dining room allows for excitement, but not the noise that emanates from a kitchen.
Euro-Island Cuisine, the menu reflects local flavors enhanced with the diverse cuisines of Europe and Asia. The plate presentations reflect many colors with the use of local ingredients. The flavors are a work of art to one’s palate. To complement the food, an award-winning wine list with an array of offerings by the glass is offered.
3660 on the Rise has won not only multiple awards both nationally and locally but also the respect of Oahu’s culinary crowd. It is definitely a gem you don’t want to miss on your next trip in paradise!
Sounds fabulous! Be sure to put 3660 on the Rise on your list for your next visit to Oahu!
Vintage Cave
Attention Aloha Joe, we have a brand new restaurant set to open this month!
Honolulu’s dining scene will enter a new era when Vintage Cave opens Dec. 10 at Ala Moana Center.
Inspired by the anthropological and artful discoveries within the Lascaux and Altamira caves, Vintage Cave will be located in Ala Moana Mall in what was formerly the Shirokiya store’s storage space.
The 15,000 square foot transformed space features 150,000 bricks from Pennsylvania Brick Co., a custom Swarovski crystal chandelier crafted in Czechslovakia and assembled in Japan, the installation of Neolithic to fine art by Picasso and Michelangelo, and glassware by Lalique and Daum.
The kitchen is led by Christopher Kajioka, who worked at Thomas Keller’s Per Se in New York City and Mourad Lahlou’s Aziza in San Francisco before coming home to open Vintage Cave. When the restaurant opens later this month, a prix fixe meal will cost $295 per person, plus tax and tip (add $100 for wine pairings). WOW!
What will diners get you may ask for such a price? Well, a test run on Nov. 30 featured 26 dishes presented in 16 courses. The menu won’t be the same every time, Chef Kajioka said, adding that he may present different dishes to each table on any given night.
Vintage Cave fans who opt for full membership will have access to private wine cellars, priority reservations and wine discounts. Membership starts at $5,000, with “Special” membership priced at $50,000 and “Charter” membership available for $500,000.
Visit vintagecave.com for more information.
Sounds incredible! Can’t wait to hear more about it when it opens!
Japengo Restaurant
Speaking of Hawaii and food the next time you or your listeners are in town check out Japengo Restaurant at the Hyatt Regency Hotel!
Japengo is located just steps from famed Waikiki Beach on the third floor of the Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort and Spa. The menu serves up authentic Japanese, Korean, Chinese and Southeast Asia inspired dishes with a full sushi bar and lounge.
A variety of seating options make Japengo perfect for any occasion, from the spacious sushi lounge, to the interactive sushi bar, private dining rooms or intimate tables-for-two.
Japengo features innovative cocktails such as sake, shochu and wine with expertly rolled sushi and a menu of exotic flavors from the Pacific Rim and South East Asia.
This month Japengo is celebrating its first anniversary with a special menu.
The celebratory four-course menu includes the White Dragon Roll, a crowd favorite, Japengo Salad and your choice of Wafu Steak or Misoyaki Butterfish. Everything is then finished off with a dessert of Japengo Coconut Creme Brulee.
For beverages, guests can choose from one bottle of imported or domestic beer or a glass of Canvas Pinot Grigio or Cabernet Sauvignon, coffee or tea, or sparkling still water.
Cost is $35 per person.
Call 237-6180 or visit waikiki.hyatt.com for more information! WOW my mouth is watering!
Sounds amazingly delicious!
