D. B. Warren’s New Album
To the surprised of many,Warren our founder and Managing Member (center in picture) is an accomplished guitarist and musician. Warren has just released his first album entitled “Once in a Blue Moon“. D. B. Warren, as he is known in Hawaii’s music circles, produced, composed and arraigned this 14 track album which has a broad range of guitar styles such as Jazz, Blues, Hawaiian Slack Key, Rock, and Folk rock. Some of Honolulu’s top musicians play with D. B. on this exciting new album. You can purchase “Once in a Blue Moon” at CD Baby, or contact us and we would be glad to express mail you a copy.
Jasmine and the Wild Elephant
One of the highlight of the album is a video of Warren’s daughter Jasmine and Sanook the wild Thai Elephant. The video of Jasmine and Sanook was taken on one of Warren’s many trips to the Orient and was filmed in a rain swollen river in Chang Mai Thailand. The bonding between this young woman and the wild Elephant was unexpected and a rare occurrence — like a blue moon — thus the name of the album ‘Once in a Blue Moon‘.

Aloha,
My wife and I will be moving to Honolulu on December 1, 2011, and we are looking for a short term rental for at least a month to give us time to get situated. Would the Ohana Beach Rentals have any rentals of this type, or a referral to an agency that does? It does not have to be on the beach, and a studio would suffice. We are looking to spend around $1,000. to $1,500. per month.
We have rented from Ohana Beach Rentals before (Lilikoi Lanai Suite at the Diamond Head Beach Hotel) and had a great experience with your agency. Please let me know any information you may have.

FYI- This was posted on Facebook by a friend living in Japan. Needless to say, I think the right thing to do is to refund the deposit. It’s not worth the bad publicity. Many of his Facebook friends are re-posting this.
“Hawaiian company behaving very badly. I would really like to recommend NOT using Ohana Beach Rentals Hawaii (http://www.obrhi.com/hawaii/) and perhaps writing them and telling them how much they suck. My good friend that lives in Sendai made a reservation through them and a week before him, his wife and two kids were going to leave on their vacation, the earthquake hit. Not only did they obviously have to cancel their vacation, their home was completely wrecked. A huge financial burden has been placed on my friends. He contacted Ohana Beach Rentals Hawaii fully expecting them to be sympathetic to their situation and got the total opposite. Their reaction was basically, too bad we’re keeping you’re $500 deposit. Seriously folks, this isn’t the way to treat a family that just went through a horrific experience of an earthquake and tsunami and that doesn’t have a home to live in. It’s shameful, and as an American I’m embarrassed by their behavior. I really think Ohana Beach Rentals Hawaii should give Court Bell, my good friend, his money back. If you think so too, please write them, they have a home page and they’re on facebook. I’m writing them right now.”

Thank you for your passionate concerns for your friends and our rental policies.
Most of us know that there are usually “two sides to every story”; and we would like very much for you to know just what happened behind the scenes so to speak.
First, let me say that our hearts and prayers go out to all the people of Japan for last months devastation and continued suffering to this day. We are all particularly sensitive to this tragedy, as residences of Hawaii. Our compassion is not limited to a just a grand public statement, but also on a personal corporate level. Please let me explain.
We are a licensed brokerage that represents individual property owners here in Hawaii, who hire us to manage and rent out their properties on a commissioned basis. We have a legal obligation and fiduciary duty to our property owners; much like a lawyer has to a client or doctor has to a patient.
The “visiting” customers we in turn rent to; also expect us to have a duty to them, to properly disclose details, handle money honorably, and provide a superior visitor experience, that at the very least, meets with their expectations. We are in effect “caught in the middle”… This is called an “agency relationship” as we are indeed the agency that stands between the Property Owner and the Visiting client. Thus our policies and procedures need to be very clear as well as properly administered. They can be viewed at our website, http://www.obrhi.com/hawaii/booking-procedures/
In the case of your good friend and our client, please note that we are reluctant to discuss the financial details in a public forum with you as a third party not related to the contract; but there seems to be a host of factors that you are apparently not aware of.
We actually did indeed return the majority of his money when we were not obligated to. Our client choose not to purchase travel/ trip interruption insurance and paid in full prior to his arrival according to normal terms.
At that point there is no obligation for us or our Property Owner to return any money, regardless of circumstances. When our client contacted our office to advise us that he was not coming to Hawaii, we were told that it was “due to the Tsunami in Japan”. We had no other information, especially any details in regard to his personal losses, which we now are sorry to learn about.
Even without such information, our company deviated from normal policy and returned all his money via wire transfer immediately for both his rental and parking contracts, when we did not have to do so. In fact, we placed ourselves in a position of liability with our “property owner” who could easily demand payment for the canceled contract, from us as their agent.
We accepted that liability on behalf of your friend and our client, and recommended that the bulk of his funds be returned.
Please note that we indeed did return all the rental contract funds in a timely manner, when we were not obligated to, by returning thousands of dollars via wire transfer immediately. There was a $500.00 published – http://www.obrhi.com/hawaii/booking-procedures/ – cancellation charge deducted; but that is normally only applied to a rental contract that has not yet been paid in full.
This contract was long since past that point. Please note that there are indeed costs to our company for handling all these accounting details as well as commissions to a salesperson, and other internal charges such as bank wire charges for refunding money, etc.
I would also like to point out that we further extended to all our Japanese cancellations, the opportunity to rebook with us in the future at a steeply discounted “kama’aina” rate in the future. Even now we offer this deeply discount rate to any of our Japanese clients, whether they are directly affected by the recent and ongoing tragedies in Japan. We provide a 20% Tsunami discount off all our rates as a small measure of “kokua” on behalf of the staff and management of Ohana Beach Rentals Hawaii.
It is of note, that at the time, your friend and our client seemed satisfied with our goodwill gestures and handling of his specific case. If that is not the case, then please have him contact me directly and I will try to my best to personally address his case. Further it is my understanding that you may be in charge of a relief fund, and should this indeed be the case we would gladly make a donation to help with the relief efforts.
Best Regards
Warren Daniel

I’m looking for a 7 bedroom home in the Waikiki-Kahala area. It also needs to be pet friendly. We are traveling with 2 small dogs. Waterfront and a pool would also be nice. Most will be leaving within 2 weeks & the rest will be there at least another 2 weeks.
Aloha Michelle,
Wish I could help, but unfortunately none of our properties are pet friendly.
Thank you for your interest.
We are two couples who will be on Oahu from Jan. 31 through Feb 7 to watch our sons’ volleyball team from UCSB play at UH. Would like to find two one-bedroom units in the same complex, as we will be sharing a car. Do you have anything like that? Thanks – Laurie
Aloha Laurie,
I am a UCSB alumni. Go Gauchos!
We are almost entirely booked for those dates. The only option we have (which may be just what you are looking for) is two studios available at the Diamond Head Beach Hotel & Residences, an oceanfront building on Oahu’s Gold Coast (strip of oceanfront between Waikiki & Diamond Head). It is a 5-10 minute drive from the UH campus.
The two studios rentals I have available are: Diamond Head Comfort and Gold Coast Comfort
Girlfriend and I Will be taking a cooking intensive classes in Niu Beach Jan 8-21 2011.
Need lodging close by as we need to drive to/from classes daily. Would like lodging with 2 beds maybe in Kahala or someplace closer to Niu Valley if you have it….and of course on beach or with ocean view.
Please help!
Colleen
Hi I have been researching on VRBO and came across some of your condos at Diamondhead beach hotel. Looking for the dates of Nov 25-Dec 2…and searching for something budget conscious for 3 maybe 4. My sister lives in Hawaii Kai and will be popping in and out. There are many condos you have listed with 15-20% discounts but I also like to inquire if there are any last minute bookings if we were to check back at a later time. Here are some I found on VRBO if you could advise the availability. Honeymoon Suite, Hibiscus Suite, Nani Luna Suite, Kuuipo Suite, # 199464(on VRBO), Palm Suite, #254433(VRBO), Pikake Suite, and Kahaki. Will be looking forward to your response. Thank you!
Aloha Angela,
Thank you for your recent rental inquiry into our Diamond Head Beach Hotel Oahu Properties for your stay on island this November 25 – December 2, 2010. For those travel dates, we are almost entirely booked so I would not recommend waiting much longer.
There are only two units still available; the Pikake Suite and the Honeymoon Suite
Hi
My family of four adults requires two bedroom accomodation with kitchen or kitchinette, between 11/19/10- 11/26/10, around $1,500 around Honolulu, preferably with a view. Is that possible?
John Lain
Dear team,
we found your website and saw the perfect recommendation from your guests – so we would like to stay in one of your accommodations from the 23rd-25th of September 2010 (2 nights/ 2 adults). Preferable a little bit „beside “ Waikiki“ – not in the center. Do you have some options for us about $ 100 per night?
Thanks a lot in advance
Philipp
Aloha Philipp,
Thank you for finding us! We have many rentals around and near Waikiki. For your stay I would recommend the Diamond Head Beach Hotel & Residences. It is an oceanfront building on Oahu’s Gold Coast (strip of oceanfront between Waikiki & Diamond Head). It is a very popular location because it is one the ocean in a peaceful and quiet neighborhood, yet just a 5 minute walk into Waikiki.
For your travel dates, I would recommend the Bali Suite or the Treetop Suite. Please click on the links to view the full details, photo gallery, virtual tour and floorplan.

Aloha Rishel,
Thank you for your rental inquiry into our 3 bedroom+ condos for your stay on island this December. There is just one 3 bedroom condo still available for your dates; the Trump Sunset Suite. This is a gorgeous brand new ultra-luxury condo in the Trump International Tower Waikiki. It is a 2 bedroom + den, 3 bath suite on the 16th floor with amazing ocean views.
Also available for your dates is a 2 bedroom oceanfront condo in the Diamond Head Beach Hotel, the Hibiscus Suite and a 3 bedroom oceanfront house in Diamond Head, the Diamond Head Tiki Estate. These properties may also be suitable for your stay.
I hope this is helpful. Please feel free to email or call me with any questions you may have as I will be happy to assist you further.
Mahalo,
Can you advise if you have an affordable unit available from June 13 – 20? Preferably with a kitchen. Thanks, Kristen
Aloha Kristen,
Yes! We are quite booked for those dates, but have a few properties still available. Our most affordable suite is Ilikai Lights. It is a studio suite with a full kitchen, city views, pool access and just a few steps to Waikiki’s white sand beaches. We also have the Seashell Suite in the Diamond Head Beach Hotel, an oceanfront building on Oahu’s Gold Coast.
If you require a 1 bedroom, we have the Window to Ala Moana still available. This is a 1 bedroom with sofa-sleeper on the 27th floor of the Ala Moana Hotel Condo with amazing ocean views.

are your rentals wheel chair accessible in every aspect. pool, doorways, restroom etc.
Aloha Liz,
Great question. We have around 100 luxury rentals including condos, homes and estates. All of the buildings in which we have suites are ADA accessible. A perfect suite for guests with wheel chairs to enjoy is the Oceanfront Retreat at the Diamond Head Beach Hotel.
