INTRO AND WEATHER
- Trade winds in the 10 mph range from the East to North East are expected.
- WARM weather with partly cloudy skies through Sunday.
- Temperatures will be in the higher 80’s during the day, dropping to mid 70’s at night.
- Surf will be picking up for the South and East facing shores at it’s biggest in the South measuring 2-5ft. North and West shores will be pretty flat and expected to remain so until later on in the winter season.
FIRST ANNUAL RICE FEST
- Hey Aloha Joe, I gotta ask you, are you a big rice fan? How about your listeners? Because we in Hawaii sure are! You can’t order anything considered “local” without having a side of rice to go along with it.
- That’s why on September 11 Oahu will celebrate its first annual Rice Fest at Aloha Tower Marketplace from 12pm to 8pm.
- In line with National Rice month as declared by the USA Rice Federation, it will be a unique one-day event packed full of family fun, entertainment, food booths, educational activities, rice products and more!
- It is an opportunity for people from different cultures to come together and celebrate one of the unique elements that unite them.
- From food demonstrations to entertainment to a “Rice-ipe” contest, this festival will celebrate the world’s melting pot, Hawaii and its diversity.
- The otherwise ordinary grain that is consumed in Hawaii on a daily basis will be transformed and infused with new and fantastic flavors that will tantalize everyone’s taste buds.
- The event sounds like an amazing opportunity to explore the many different uses for rice, as well as the cultures that use it, and will provide attendees with a deeper appreciation for rice and its many functions.
OKINAWAN FESTIVAL
- One of the many cultures that enjoy rice as well and are infused with Hawaii’s own culture is the Okinawan people.
- Attracting more than 50,000 visitors annually, the Okinawan Festival, happening on September 4th at Kapiolani Park, has become the premiere annual event of the Hawaii United Okinawa Association. Proceeds from the Festival support the HUOA’s mission of preserving, promoting and sharing the Okinawan culture.
- This year will mark the festival’s 28th annual event!
- Visitors will enjoy a day of family fun with live entertainment, food and craft booths, cultural and educational activities and much more. It’s free to attend and awesome to experience!
- Of course there will be rice at this festival as well.
MAUI CHANNEL SWIM
- You can bet on that! And after all those carbohydrates and good Okinawan food we better fly over to Maui and compete in the Maui Channel Swim happening that same day!
- On September 4th elite swimmers from around the world will swim the 9.4 mile channel from Maui to Lanai.
- There are six swimmers per team. Each swimmer swims half an hour legs until all team members have swam.
- There is usually a huge rivalry between the Australian and American teams but the deciding factor isn’t whose strongest but what kind of mood the ocean is in that day and which team can handle it the best.
- It definitely sounds intense.
LAST THURSDAY
- I feel exhausted just thinking about it Aloha Joe. I don’t know about you but I am definitely ready for some cocktails! It’s almost the weekend here in paradise but there is a party here every night.
- Tonight a popular club/restaurant venue, Apartment 3, located in Waikiki, features there “Munch” night.
- It’s a monthly cocktail party paired dinning experience that happens every last Thursday of the month. It is a 3 course plus amuse special menu dinner created exclusively for “Munch” by apartment3’s executive chef.
- There will be special exclusive cocktail pairings for each course featuring a different liquor (or beer) every month.
- What a way to end the month and jump-start the weekend. I would love to “Munch” down at that party anytime.
HAWAII TIT-BIT
- Who doesn’t with all those cocktails and dinner pairings? When it comes to unusual beverage ideas and ingredients, Hawaii is definitely one of the most innovative cities in the world.
- Did you know Aloha Joe that Hawaii is actually the only state in the U.S.A that grows coffee?
- On the North Shore of Oahu you will find acres of Hawaii grown coffee field that spread out for miles. It’s really quite beautiful.
- Most visitors love taking home the delicious Macadamia Nut flavored Kona Coffee blends grown on The Big Island.
- Macadamia Nuts are also a huge natural resource that Hawaii farmers grow themselves as well.
- With such fertile soil and perfect surroundings to grown these amazing delicacies it’s no wonder Hawaii has so many unique flavors to choose from. It all just burst straight from the ground itself. Just a little Hawaii Tit-Bit from Ohanan Beach Rentals Hawaii.
