Moku O Keawe Festival

  • When people think of Hawaii one of the first things that usually comes to mind is the beautiful art of Hula. The people of Hawaii love to showcase the dance by having competitions, festivals, organizations and clubs dedicated to perpetuating this cultural art form.
  • The Moku O Keawe Festival happening November 4-7th at Waikoloa Resort on the Big Island is one such celebration.
  • The foundation aims to achieve its mission through sharing the intrinsic values of the host culture and express the appreciation of the visual and hands-on experience of the symbolic and historical nature of Hula.
  • The festival consists of several hula workshops catered to beginner and advanced levels.
  • A competition is held throughout the event and winners are announced in each division.
  • Prices vary depending on workshop.
  • It’s a memorable experience for anyone interested in learning about hula that you can only get in Hawaii.

  • And amazing is what Warrior fans are hoping for this Saturday as they face off against Fresno State.
  • Fans will be sure to get down to Aloha Stadium early to root for their home team! The match-up should be impressive.
  • So far the warriors have had an all right run and hopefully they will make it out with another win on Saturday.

HAWAII TID-BIT

  • Aloha Joe as you know I am in Asia right now on business and have been experiencing first hand how much Hawaii has been influenced by Chinese, Japanese, and other Asian cultures.
  • I’m not just talking about food, as we all know has been greatly influenced by rice, spices and certain cooking techniques adopted from the Asian culture, but certain social practices, like removing your shoes when entering a home, and certain values, like respect for elder generations have also been adopted.
  • Chinese immigrants came to Hawaii in the early 1900s to work on the plantation fields and ending up establishing long lasting roots in the islands.
  • In fact the first Asian-American in the U.S. senate was Hawaii’s own Hiram Fong, a descendant of Chinese immigrants.
  • to this day, Asia and Asian people make up a fundamental part of Hawaii’s society.
